Luanne Thomas Ewald

Luanne Thomas Ewald is President and Chief Operating Officer of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital, part of University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor. With more than 30 years of experience in healthcare administration, she leads strategic and operational management across two of Michigan’s premier pediatric and women’s health institutions, overseeing thousands of employees and hundreds of physicians.
Ewald began her career in 1993 as an administrative fellow at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, rising to CEO by the time she left in 2019 — a tenure marked by the opening of ten specialty centers and a new $175 million patient tower. She joined University of Michigan Health in 2020.
A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Ewald holds a business degree from Marquette University and a master’s in health administration from Xavier University. She currently chairs the Board of Directors for United Way for Southeastern Michigan and was named one of Crain’s Detroit Business “Most Influential Women.”
